Project Description

The Roanoke Accessible Addition involved constructing a substantial extension across the back of a home for a disabled veteran, promoting ease of access and comfort. The project features a new bedroom with a zero-step entry via a permanent wooden ramp, ensuring seamless accessibility for the client. Adjacent to the bedroom, an accessible bathroom was created, featuring a curbless shower, wall-hung sink, and comfort-height commode. To facilitate safe and easy movement, a ceiling lift was installed, allowing transition from the bed into the bathroom, with specific design accommodations made in both the shower and the shower curtain to enable its use. Additionally, the opposite side of this addition houses a living room with hardwood flooring and abundant windows to capture natural light, fostering a welcoming atmosphere. A second ramp provides further access to the driveway and a gazebo, enabling the veteran to enjoy outdoor experiences in favorable weather, enhancing quality of life by blending indoor and outdoor living spaces thoughtfully and effectively.
