Project Description

For the Vinton Bathroom Remodel and Ramp project, we were dedicated to creating an accessible living environment for a service-connected disabled veteran and his full-time caregiver wife. Recognizing the unique challenges presented by the client’s mobility needs, we expanded the existing bathroom with a bump-out addition to accommodate a curbless shower, wall-hung sink, and comfort-height commode.

This strategic design ensured ease of access and use, effectively minimizing physical strain on the caregiver. Furthermore, by replacing the bedroom carpet with hard surface flooring and widening the doorway, we ensured smooth transitions throughout the living space. The installation of a ceiling lift was crucial, allowing for safe movement from the bed to both the shower and toilet, enhanced by a custom hinged shower curtain rod.

Moreover, accessibility improvements continued with the replacement of the front door with a custom door featuring a hinged sidelight, optimizing the entrance for gurney transport if needed. To address emergency egress, a modular aluminum ramp provided access to the front door, complemented by a wooden ramp directly accessing the bedroom. The culmination of these efforts resulted in a living situation that significantly improved daily life for both the veteran and his devoted wife.
