Project Description

The Daleville project focused on creating a first-floor master suite for a client in her 80s, enabling her to age in place comfortably within her two-story colonial home. Initial discussions included a stair lift installation to access the second-floor bedrooms, but the existing master bath wasn’t suited for accessibility modifications. The final blueprint opted for repurposing the dining room into a bathroom and the living room into a bedroom, ensuring adequate space and functionality without sacrificing guest facilities.

Design enhancements featured the addition of swinging doors for foyer access and barn doors between the bedroom and bathroom. A curbless shower with a fold-down seat, grab bars, and dual showerheads, alongside a weighted shower curtain, provided secure bathing. The inclusion of a roll-under vanity and a comfort-height commode elevated accessibility, complemented by replacing the plush carpet with vinyl plank flooring to support mobility devices and ease maintenance. These thoughtful adjustments afforded the client a safe and convenient living arrangement exclusively on the first floor, aligning with her independence and comfort priorities.
