Project Description

This Whole House Remodel in Salem was initiated by a couple in their seventies who sought to transform their outdated home into a more functional space for both daily living and family gatherings. This comprehensive remodel aimed to create a seamless open floor plan extending from the front to the back of the house, addressing the couple’s desire for ample space during holidays and special occasions. Additionally, a key aspect of the project was relocating the laundry area from the basement to the main floor, thereby eliminating the need to traverse steep, narrow stairs. Our design team, with expertise in aging-in-place transformations, developed a plan to build a new addition incorporating a main floor laundry area, pantry, and safer stairway.

To enhance accessibility, the remodel included a zero-step entry at the front door and a redesigned kitchen with an island and extra cabinetry. We removed two walls to create an open, flexible gathering space and improved the master bedroom entrance and main bathroom with a widened doorway and accessibility features such as a curbless shower and a roll-under sink. Throughout the renovation, we worked closely with the clients, ensuring their needs and desires were met, ultimately fulfilling their vision of a safe, accessible, and welcoming home.
